It’s that every inch of Astro Bot is designed to offer a fresh experience. It all fits together perfectly, with levels unfurling with surprising secrets that encourage exploration and always have an answer for a curious mind. Astro Bot might also be the most ASMR game ever with pitch perfect sound design that reacts to every single surface like no other game before. If you thought Playroom was a showcase for the DualSense, you haven’t seen anything yet. It comes with a plethora of powers, but they never feel overused.

You play as an animal that can walk on their legs, pees on checkpoints and 4 legs sprints in an apocalypse because animals that anthropomorphize but THAT’s TOO FAR when it has gas immunity for 5 gas types. Like some of these developers I swear have little imagination, enough but not broad enough for the gameplay, just the bare minimum.

I just wish there were one or two more of them, but perhaps I’m being greedy. Over 150 of them in fact, as characters from PlayStation’s vast library of games have made their way into Astro’s world in the form of other bots. There are the ones you’d expect like Lombaxes, tomb raiders, and a certain rapping dog but, delightfully, some are plucked from the more obscure end of the scale.

Not every level does require you to be quick on your feet, but it’s a good reminder for when you’re tackling some of the harder levels. Astro Bot speed running levels have begun rolling out as weekly updates, adding two new cameo bots with each level.
