This references the Castlevania series, specifically 1997’s Symphony of the Night on PS1, by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo. Nearby rr99 is an island with a bot making a blocky T. The game is about making assets and even entire games from scratch. At the start of GPU Jungle, check along the left-hand side between two trees for a lower section with four Bots with various weapons on their backs huddled around a campfire.
Artifact 1/2 “PS Move Navigation Controller” – From the start of the area pull up the wires on the right to grab a throwable item, then throw it at the platform to drop it into the water. Jump across and pull the three small wires, followed by the revealed large middle wire to get this artifact. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – From the start of the area, go to the left and go through or around the igloo to find this puzzle piece.

Puzzle Piece 4/4– In the area you end up in after falling to grab puzzle piece 3, you need to grab the lowest yellow handhold on the wall to make this puzzle piece appear. Artifact 1/2 “PS Move Motion Controller” – From the start of the area, go to the right and drop down to a lower area. In the back corner, there will be a curtain of plants you need to blow out of the way with the microphone. Puzzle Piece 4/4 – Directly after the above, this puzzle piece is basically in your way. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – From the very start go to the large umbrella on the dock area on the left.

I always thought they missed a big trick here, and should have had Astro bot (the game) reveal the look of the Pro at the end of the game – via some sort of super power up for the mothership. Stand at the edge of the level and throw the projectile towards it to reveal the location of the bot. First, activate the first two rope bridges by pulling the wires out of the ground. Now, return to the starting area, and to the side, you’ll find another set of wires, which gives you a projectile with a net inside.

Similar feelings are conveyed when you walk on ice, have water droplets falling on you, and other things that I won’t spoil. These feelings that I got from this controller are hard to describe in text but when you actually feel it for yourself, you’ll see just how much of a game changer the DualSense controller can be. It really makes me hope that as many developers as possible use the feature set inside this controller in their games. Astro and his crew lead you on a magical introduction through PS5 in this fun platformer that comes pre-loaded on PS5. Each area showcases innovative gameplay that taps into the new features of the PS5’s DualSense wireless controller.
That was never a problem though as the game is constantly introducing new things for you to use to show off that controller and it feels really good all the way through. Every level has you trying to reach the goal at the end while collecting gold coins along the way. Puzzle pieces are hidden about in each level too that when collected will fill in murals back in the HUB area. Time trial levels can be unlocked later and competing with others online to see who can finish a level in the best time can be quite addictive. The PlayStation 5 even gives me notifications when I get online if someone on my friends list beat my score which makes me want to keep jumping back in to take my spot back. The trophies in Astro Playroom are categorized by difficulty‚ with bronze being the easiest and platinum the most challenging.
Some platform games require a lot of skill and combination movements, which can be frustrating to master. For younger players, set time aside to help them learn and practise the skills. In the second mud pit of Gusty Gateway you’ll find a Bot carrying several crates while being surrounded by crabs. This is a reference to 2020’s Death Stranding by Kojima Productions on PS4, which stars Norman Reedus as courier Sam Bridges in a post-apocalyptic America. In the first mud pit in Gusty Gateway, look in the right-hand corner for a skeleton swinging a sword around with a distinctive shield. The shield reveals that this is a reference to 1998’s MediEvil on PS1 by SCE Cambridge, about the knight Sir Daniel Fortesque being brought back to life so he can live up to his own falsified legacy. I can’t imagine playing it with a standard controller — though I’m sure my family hopes I run out of new discoveries soon. I’ve developed an incredibly annoying habit while playing Astro’s Playroom.
Astro’s Playroom launches November 12th, bundled with the PlayStation 5. First, progress through the level until you get to the controller cable tight-rope walk to the first Checkpoint, which you’ll do after crossing an island with strong winds. You don’t have to actually cross the tight-rope, but you do need to extend it since you can’t do that whilst carrying something. Holding the square for a long while will charge a special rotating attack.
Astro’s Playroom is a 2020 platform game developed by Japan Studio’s Team Asobi division and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. The game was created to demonstrate the features of the DualSense Wireless Controller and new PS5. If you happen to be one of the lucky few with a PlayStation 5 this holiday season, there aren’t going to be a ton of games that really show off all the fancy features of this giant white tower in your house. Lucky for you, Astro’s Playroom is one of the best showpieces of the PS5, setting a new standard for what this next generation is really capable of. In one level, I run Astro through a rainstorm, and an automatic umbrella pops up out of his head.
This is a reference to 2009’s Fat Princess for the PS3, developed by Titans Studios. The game was a twist on Capture the Flag where you feed your Princess cake to make her heavier, and thus harder for your opponents to steal. Further along the beach from the God of War easter egg is a giant Bot head. This is a reference to 2006’s LocoRoco for PSP, developed by SIE Japan Studio.
